Choosing a soil sensor: 4-in-1 or moisture only?
Costs and benefits compared – when you need EC and pH, and when moisture is enough.
By Kỹ sư Trần Quốc Bảo5 min read
Soil moisture decides when to irrigate; EC shows nutrient levels; pH affects uptake. For soil-grown greens, moisture and temperature are usually enough to automate irrigation.
When 4-in-1 pays off
When fertigating, growing high-value crops like melons or durian, or on land at risk of salinity – EC readings give early warning.
How many sensors
Net houses: one per 300–500 m² per irrigation zone. Orchards: 2–4 per ha, placed by soil type rather than evenly.
